Power Plants in Greece
Greece has 268 power plants mapped on the OverWatts open energy atlas — the 17th-largest fleet of the 155 countries that hold any, and 0.9% of the world's mapped total. Of these, 33 operating and 229 under construction or proposed. Operating generation capacity totals 13.7 GW across 33 utility-scale plants of 100 MW and above. The largest is Amvrakikos Kolpos-Boukka solar farm (6.7 GW).
The largest owner-operators are Public Power Corporation SA (45), Terna Energy (10) and Cero Generation (5) — Public Power Corporation SA alone is named on 17% of them. Half of Greece's power plants in service predate 1999 (median commissioning year of the 31 with a known date), 5 came online in the past decade and the oldest still listed is Plastiras hydroelectric plant, dating from 1960. 229 are in the pipeline, led by Amvrakikos Kolpos-Boukka solar farm (6.7 GW), proposed. They account for 83% of every energy asset OverWatts maps in Greece.
