Power Plants in Vietnam
Vietnam has 392 power plants mapped on the OverWatts open energy atlas — the 10th-largest fleet of the 155 countries that hold any, and 1% of the world's mapped total. Of these, 128 operating and 263 under construction or proposed. Operating generation capacity totals 63.9 GW across 128 utility-scale plants of 100 MW and above. The largest is Cần Giờ offshore wind farm (6.0 GW).
The largest owner-operators are Vietnam Electricity (EVN) (26), Vietnam Electricity LLC (15) and Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Corp Ltd (7) — Vietnam Electricity (EVN) alone is named on 7% of them. Half of Vietnam's power plants in service predate 2016 (median commissioning year of the 125 with a known date), 63 came online in the past decade and the oldest still listed is Da Nhim hydroelectric plant, dating from 1964. 263 are in the pipeline, led by Cần Giờ offshore wind farm (6.0 GW), proposed. They account for 61% of every energy asset OverWatts maps in Vietnam.
