Poland has 148 power plants mapped on the OverWatts open energy atlas — the 31st-largest fleet of the 155 countries that hold any, and 0.5% of the world's mapped total. Of these, 69 operating and 60 under construction or proposed. Operating generation capacity totals 36.9 GW across 69 utility-scale plants of 100 MW and above. The largest is Belchatow power station (5.0 GW).
The largest owner-operators are ORLEN SA (14), PGE Energia Ciepła SA (12) and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA (9) — ORLEN SA alone is named on 9% of them. Half of Poland's power plants in service predate 1997 (median commissioning year of the 68 with a known date), 18 came online in the past decade and the oldest still listed is Jaworzno power station, dating from 1953. 60 are in the pipeline, led by Lubiatowo-Kopalino nuclear power plant (3.8 GW), under construction. They account for 38% of every energy asset OverWatts maps in Poland.
