Australia has 158 pipelines mapped on the OverWatts open energy atlas — the 4th-largest fleet of the 110 countries that hold any, and 3% of the world's mapped total. Of these, 107 operating and 16 under construction or proposed.
The largest owner-operators are APA Group (34), Santos Ltd (14) and Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (11) — APA Group alone is named on 22% of them. Half of Australia's pipelines in service predate 2004 (median commissioning year of the 91 with a known date), 18 came online in the past decade and the oldest still listed is Barrow Island Oil Pipeline, dating from 1964. 16 are in the pipeline, led by Queensland Hunter Gas Pipeline — Main Line, proposed.
