LNG Terminals in Australia
Australia has 56 LNG terminals mapped on the OverWatts open energy atlas — the 4th-largest fleet of the 102 countries that hold any, and 4% of the world's mapped total. Of these, 29 operating and 11 under construction or proposed. Combined LNG capacity is about 272 Mtpa. The largest is Arrow Energy LNG Terminal (18 Mtpa).
The largest owner-operators are Woodside Energy Group Ltd (11), Shell PLC (10) and Chevron Corp (9) — Woodside Energy Group Ltd alone is named on 20% of them. Half of Australia's LNG terminals in service predate 2016 (median commissioning year of the 25 with a known date), 15 came online in the past decade and the oldest still listed is North West Shelf LNG Terminal, dating from 1989. 11 are in the pipeline, led by Northern Territory LNG Terminal (6.6 Mtpa), proposed. They account for 4% of every energy asset OverWatts maps in Australia.
