The companies named on the most assets are JERA Co Inc (46), Kansai Electric Power Co (40) and Tokyo Gas (36), counting both ownership and operatorship. Half of Japan's mapped assets in service predate 1989 (median commissioning year of the 481 with a known date), 55 came online in the past decade and the oldest still listed is Nippon Kyushu Works (Yawata Area, Tobata) steel plant, dating from 1901. 40+ projects are under construction or proposed, led by SSE Pacifico Prospective Japanese Projects wind farm (4.1 GW).
