How Europe re-plumbed its gas supply
After 2022, the EU replaced piped Russian gas with a ring of new LNG import terminals — built in months, not years.
For decades Europe's gas arrived by pipeline from the east. When those flows collapsed, the continent pivoted to seaborne LNG, standing up floating import terminals along the North Sea and Baltic coasts at unprecedented speed (Wilhelmshaven, Eemshaven, Lubmin, the Baltic FSRUs).
Show the LNG terminals and gas pipelines together and the swap reads off the map: import capacity blooming on the coast while the great eastern pipeline corridors that fed it for fifty years go quiet.
